Shukracharya, son of sage Bhrigu, was born brilliant and determined. To learn the Mrita-Sanjeevini Vidya (knowledge of resurrection), he undertook a thousand-year penance at Mount Kailash for Shiva. Worried this would make the Asuras unbeatable, Indra sent his daughter Jayanti to disrupt him. Instead, moved by his devotion, Jayanti protected him, shielding him from the sun and serving him faithfully.
After Shiva granted Shukracharya the boon, he rewarded Jayanti’s devotion: they married and lived ten years together in seclusion. Shukracharya rose as the Daityaguru, famed for his wisdom, wealth mastery, and protective, selfless nature, linking the realms of light and shadow.
